The dimensions and markings of rugby rugby league pitch dimensions are an important part of the game. These markings are essential to ensure that players and referees can identify the boundaries of the playing area. They also help to make decisions about how the game is played. Mastering the pitch dimensions and markings can be challenging, especially for newcomers to rugby league. In this article, we will explore the different types of pitch markings and their purposes.

Rugby pitch dimensions

The field of play on a rugby league pitch is 100 meters long and 70 meters wide, with an in-goal area of 22 meters at each end. It is usually surrounded by touch lines and deadball lines. A rugby pitch is typically 4 to 6 metres wider than a football pitch.

In addition to the touchlines and goal lines, a rugby pitch has other solid and dashed line markings that serve various purposes. The first of these is the solid line at each edge that defines the boundary of the playing area. This line is called the “touchline” and no player can cross it during a match.

There is another white pitch marking, which is 150 mm wide and runs from touchline to touchline across the center of the field, exactly 50 m from each goal line. This is known as the “dead-ball line” and marks the limit of the playing area. Any ball that is grounded over this line halts play and results in a scrum.
